Are You Ready to Get Your RV Back Onto the Open Road?

With our states all over the map regarding their “shelter-at-home” or “phase 1 reopening” guidelines, many RV vacationers are excited to hit the road again.  Before you put your pedal-to-the-metal and take your RV to your favorite destination, here’s some important information about the future of post-pandemic RV camping.

On April 20, Ourdoorsy.com sponsored a video panel of RV industry experts. Together, they discussed what the industry is doing now and what they anticipate after our shelter-at-home guidelines are lifted.  According to Outdoorsy’s Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer Jen Young, “We believe the future is bright for RV travel and camping; and we know we’re going to do this together.”

Just as you are likely hanging out at home, most campgrounds and RV rental companies have had most of their upcoming reservations canceled or rescheduled.  In fact, Karen Redfern, the VP of Brand Marketing and Communication for the RV Industry Association said their efforts right now are to help people who use campgrounds as temporary residences and feels now is not the time to encourage leisure travel.  Interestingly, Jen Young noted that there’s been an uptick in last-minute RV rentals where some families are renting an RV and parking it in their yard for a new kind of “staycation.”

Joel Holland, owner of Harvest Hosts, described what he feels is “mass confusion” regarding travel itineraries as all of the states have different guidelines in place regarding closures.  Vacationers are looking forward to having more clarity as states return to allowing parks and campgrounds to be consistently open. He has felt a growing “pent-up demand” amongst RV owners, and anticipates RV travel and camping to be back to “normal” levels much sooner than the rest of the travel industry.

What does this mean for you?

  1. Continue dreaming about your next RV roadtrip! Check out websites with online virtual park visits like Travel and Leisure while you’re sheltering at home to decide where you want to go when the pandemic is over.
  2. Consider making refundable reservations for campsites in the future so when the shelter-at-home guidelines are lifted, you have a reservation in place. Ask your favorite campground if they will refund or change your reservation if needed and what the terms are.
  3. Use this time to perform intensive cleaning, spruce-up, and maintenance on your RV! Now’s the time to perform that oil change, purchase new tires, or install new mud flaps on your motorhome.

Purchase new RV mud flaps from DuraFlap before May 16 and save money!

RV mud flaps and rear mud flaps are important to protect your motorhome, your toad, and the other vehicles on the road from kicked up rocks and other road debris.  Wheel well mud flaps are instrumental in keeping mud, snow, and slush from accumulating around or near the wheels so your tires maintain optimal traction with the road.

DuraFlaprv travel offers over 100 custom designs to personalize your rear or RV mud flaps, or we can use your own artwork to make your mud flaps as unique as you are!
