Simple Steps to Weatherize A Pickup Truck

The leaves are beginning to turn color, and the temperatures are starting to drop.  That means this is a good time to start planning to winterize your pickup truck.  By taking a few proactive steps while it’s still nice outdoors, your rig will be better protected for the cold months to come.

Five steps to winterize a pickup truck:

  1. Check your tires.  Cooler temperatures will reduce the air pressure in your tires, so make sure the pressure is adequate before those temps drop.  If you live in an area prone to dense rainfall, thick snowfall, or icy road conditions, ensure your tires are in good condition, and you have sufficient tread.  For those drivers who use snow tires, now’s the time to dig them out of storage.  Don’t forget to throw your chains in your bed’s toolbox or behind the cab’s seats, so you have them if you need them.
  2. Inspect the antifreeze.  Make sure your antifreeze is correctly filled–too much or too little will cause issues in cold weather.
  3. Evaluate your battery.  Take a look at your records and see if it’s time to replace your battery.  If not, spend a few minutes to ensure all the connections are clean and secure and that the water level is high enough to cover the lead plates.
  4. Check the oil.  Refer to your vehicle’s manufacturer recommendations and ensure your vehicle has the correct viscosity oil in it for best performance during the winter months.
  5. Protect the exterior.  Winter road conditions can be hazardous to the health of your truck’s body.  Sludge, ice, rocks, and road salt all get kicked up from the road onto the exterior.  Adding or replacing the mudflaps on your vehicle will protect the sides and rear from being scratched or dented by this road debris.

When it comes to mudflaps, DuraFlap is the market leader.

DuraFlap’s patented drill-less mudflaps use holes already existing in the body of your vehicle along with our patented brackets for a secure fit.  By doing so, our mudflaps are easier to install (they can be installed without taking the tires off) and present no new holes that are prone to rust and corrosion.

Your new DuraFlap mudflaps will give you years of protection.  Our exclusive “rain grooves” direct rain, snow, and road debris down and away from the vehicle.  The flaps are constructed from ⅜” polyethylene/rubber blend material and feature anti-sail and anti-spray capabilities.
